Illustration Friday - Insect

Oil Painting originally for Tabletalk magazine in 1998. They wanted a bug collection box with a butterfly in the center with ugly bugs in the same box. Is was important that the Monarch glow with beauty. I had fun researching for some other real insects that looked interesting, ugly and even scary. This is mostly done in thin oils with a little colored pencil for the wood grain. Size is about 16" wide.
